Phyllis Mabbett, RN, PhD

Dr. Mabbett’s position as Director for Continuing Education Alliance, is a natural culmination of a career which has taken her through clinical practice, education and health care administration. The opportunity to join with 3 other visionary colleagues to establish Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine was a highlight of her career as a Scripps Health Administrator.

As an educator and professional speaker, Dr. Mabbett is known for her dynamic style and engaging presentations. For many years, she has studied and tracked the responses of people who successfully maintain personal positive energy while working in demanding and exhausting work conditions. Her “Vitality Training Programs” are based on her clinical research into these rejuvenating response patterns.

As a member of the team at Dr. Brad Eli & Associates, for many years she has provided psychological services for patients grappling with chronic pain conditions. In 2016, she responded to an invitation to develop an educational program for Respiratory Therapists on Sleep Disordered Breathing. Between 2016 and 2019, this course was offered to several classes of senior RT students. Now, this course is available by special arrangement with healthcare entities.

Shirley Gutkowski

Shirley Gutkowski

Shirley Gutkowski owns Primal Air, LLC an orofacial myofunctional therapy and breathing retraining practice in Sun Prairie, WI since 2016.

After performing chairside clinical dental hygiene for decades, she discovered the true seed of health; breathing and the airway.

The name Primal Air harkens back to when the midface was large accommodating all the teeth and housed a sinus system that could accommodate endurance feats while breathing through the nose.

Today, at Primal Air, Gutkowski coaches and provides therapy to people of all activity levels improving their sleep, their swallow, and their breathing. She also runs the Office Training segment of Primal Air helping dental and chiropractic practices to recognize breathing and airway disorders in their patients.

Applying herself to taking multiple medical, dental and mental health sleep and craniofacial courses, along with her insatiable appetite for research-led Julia to the discovery that sleep is so much more than just ‘closing one’s eyes’.

Realizing that this information is sorely lacking in all areas of healthcare as well as in the general population, she created an International Airway Advocate program for The Foundation for Airway Health.

Julia is a published author and a member of many professional bodies. She lectures internationally and is an expert in applying sleep and craniofacial assessments in a healthcare environment. She is honoured to be the Educational Director for CEA (Continuing Education Alliance) and to sit on the Executive Board for the Foundation for Airway Health, ALF InterFACE Academy and to be an honorary faculty member for The Indian Society for Sleep Research.
